Environmental & Closures

Planning for eventual project closure and property reuse is an integral part of every successful mining operation. Following mining industry best practices and diligently adhering to regulatory requirements is vital not only to productive mine operations, but is also crucial for subsequent reclamation and redevelopment. We can help develop and implement innovative site closure and redevelopment plans.

Compliance:

We have handled a wide variety of ongoing environmental compliance matters, covering the spectrum from onsite audits at underground mines near the Arctic Circle to heap leach open pit operations in Nevada, including efficient resolution of non-compliance matters. We have represented domestic and international mining projects located in environmentally and culturally sensitive areas.

Closure & Post-Closure:

We have handled mine drainage issues for former underground gold mines including the Sunnyside Mine in Colorado and the AJ Mine underlying the town of Juneau, Alaska. We are involved with projects utilizing mined lands and mine drainage for development of other energy resources such as solar and oil and gas.

Redevelopment of Mining Sites:

We have extensive Superfund liability and reuse and redevelopment experience for former mine sites, including the former Montana Anaconda sites.
